Task Management Design
Project Background
Context
Workframe is a workflow automation and insights platform that empowers teams to streamline communication and collaborate more efficiently. Knowing the importance of task management within their platform Workframe approached me to partner with their product team to design their task management UI.
My Role
I was the sole product designer, responsible for the research and design efforts, working in conjunction product management, engineering, and QA.
Approach
I conducted interviews to better understand users’ needs, the output of which was used to refine the original set of requirements. I then worked to create low fidelity designs, testing them frequently with users and incorporating the feedback we received. Once we arrived at a final set of wireframes I began to apply Workframe’s style and design patterns, creating a final, pixel-perfect design. Through continued testing we arrived at a solution which was elegant and effective and that has since delighted Workframe users.
Addressing User Needs
A tasks UI that supports user tasks
Work functions in the commercial real estate space tend to have consistent needs and patterns, so as we evolved the task management design, we did so with a constant focus on these core priorities. Whether it was supporting rapid task entry or batch task management, I ensured the specific needs of Workframe’s users were always top of mind.
A quick task creation process
Being able to quickly create tasks was essential for Workframe users so we designed a simple task creation UI that positioned the most commonly used fields front-and-center, kept the number of required fields to a minimum, and allowed users to access less commonly used fields through progressive disclosure.
The Outcome
The Task Management Design project was successfully delivered and the response from Workframe users has been wildly positive. So positive in fact that Workframe was acquired by Newmark Group, Inc, a leading, global, full-service commercial real estate services business.
According to Newmark’s Chief Information Officer, Raj Bhatti, “Workframe is a fundamental industry distinction for us and we expect it to propel NKF’s technology platform, ultimately elevating every aspect of our CRE services globally.
